Welcome to an opportunity to help us in our drive to translate their lives from abject suffering and want to prosperity and hope. Going Rural to enrich the lives of the poor is what our all-inclusive focus is....
The Grassroots Foundation (GF) is a non-profit entity comprising men and women with a unique concern for Sri Lanka's teeming rural masses and are drawn from civil society, private sector, government service, politicians, religious communities and social service organizations. The common link between GF's members is their humane concern for these rural societies and their commitment to foster and nurture peaceful and productive co-existence amongst these multi-ethnic and religious communities.
The mission of Grassroots Foundation is to enrich the lives of the rural poor, empower them and uphold the democratic values of equality, justice and respect for human rights. GRF promote livelihood activities as a way of making the poor independent, and towards this end has implemented several projects.
The singular concern of the Grassroots Foundation is that of empowering to help enrich the lives of the rural poor, provide them with the tools for appropriate livelihoods and help make tangible in their lives the democratic values of social equality, justice and human rights. GF promotes livelihood activities via the introduction of programs, often including life-skills training with the objective of helping them achieve and enjoy the economic prosperity that they have a right to.
Micro-finance and a wide range of financial services provided to the poor and low income rural sectors have proved to be effective tools in poverty eradication in the world. GF has been applying this method of rural empowerment and continues to probe deeper into rural life to enrich the millions who somehow continue to be marginalized in development advantages. Studies have specifically proved that direct micro-finance assistance to women has helped boost their output - and hence produced a positive impact in their self-employment activities such as animal husbandry, home gardening, handicrafts, pottery, milk industry, ice cream industry, costume jewelry manufacturing and other small business enterprises.
These programs have gradually spread island wide to enhance household incomes in every district in Sri Lanka.
The objective in hosting this website is to harness more support for our programs which are a commanding corporate social responsibility demanded by the sheer extent of assistance that our poverty stricken rural communities, particularly the youth and women, are in dire need of. It is hoped that this knowledge of the fact that out there in Sri Lanka's rural villages are teeming lacs of people, who are in dire need of a helping hand to enhance their livelihood skills and capacities will motivate philanthropists to partner us in our efforts to finance our programs on behalf of these people. As they progress, we try to ensure that they are linked to micro finance institutions which will extend to them seed funding for their small scale businesses.
